Took a few pic of my newest additions Mesanauta Egregius. They are in a planted tank with my Rams and Latacara dorsigera. I'm looking foward to seeing this group devlope, they're only about 2 to 2.5" long and very hungry, active and courious.
They do look alot like Mesonauta insignis, they were bought as wild Mesanauta Egregius from TUIC, however I suppose they could be misidentified as all the photos I've seen while reasearching them has the two species looking very similar in various photos. I have noticed M. Insignis has a yellow stomach area in adults. I guess I'll grow them out and see what they end up being. Reguardless they are very interesting to watch with plenty of interaction. I guess the fact that they are not showing any stress bars means they are comfortable but makes a positive ID diffacult. When they first arrived they were showing bars so I went in line and the pattern resembled M. Egregius so I was satisfied that's what they are but time will tell.
Thanks Brian, they are cool little fish. I kept Festivum (sp?) years ago and wanted to keep them again for quite a while but for various reasons didn't feel I had a set-up condusive to their needs. My fish keeping tastes have evolved away from the big CA bangers and I'm enjoying some of the less common SA species that lend themselves to nicly decorated plant friendly set-ups.
