I've been looking around at various profiles for these "festivums" and as far as size, I've seen both up to 4" and up to 8"...quite a difference. People who actually keep M. insignis, how big are yours? My male is a little over 4", so is he about done growing, or should I expect him to get twice this size?

I can't tell you definitively which species I have kept because no one ever could agree on their identity. One was supposedly wild-caught Mesonauta acora and the other was sold to me as true Mesonauta festivus.

Either way, the males all ended up around 6" after the first year or year and a half, and continue to grow. My friend who took the M. acora said the males are up to about 7" or so and really bulky. The M. festivus left me about a month ago because the males were starting to attack and harass my adult severums.

My guess is that the fish could potentially reach 6 - 8" if male. My females were considerably smaller, maybe 3 - 4". Also remember that things like water change schedule, feeding schedule, tank size, and genetics play a part in how large a fish will grow.

Thanks for the info! I figured he would get at least a little larger as he is only about a year old now.
