I caught this guy last summer but it seems to have these sore type things on its sides. eats regularly. also what type of sunfish is it?

2 things, check water quality, and check for agressive tankmates. It kinda looks like a green sunfish, but it could also be a hybrid.

looks like Head and Lateral Line Erosion aka HITH to me. As far as what kind of sunfish I could not tell you.

Looks like a hybrid. Has the body shape of a bass, but the coloration of a sunfish.

I agree. It is hard to heal once it starts. Best treatment and prevention I have found is maintain excellent water quality. I also use vitamin blocks in the tank a few times a year or if I start seeing any sine of it. Can't provide proof the vitamin blocks work but it has made a difference for me. I also think API aquarium salt at one table spoon per five gallons is beneficial.

Nope, just regular pure green sunfish.

thanks for your help. it was in with a VERY agressive bass but i took the bass out for him/her. it always used to hide but now that theres no predators to go after it. it looked like it was getting better, then i had an ammonia problem which may have made it worse. but now the tank is clean again, and im trying to get it healthy

also wondering if its contagious! i dont want anyone else to get it!

Not really, HLLE/HITH is a speculative disease no one really knows what the direct cause of it is. However clean water, good diet and low stress environment are considerd the best route for recovery. This is not to say that secondary infections from bacteria/protazoa/fungus cant form in the wounds, because they can. So keep your Ammonia/nitrites at zero and Nitrates as low as possiable via frequent large water changes/well operating filters, good food and keep a close eye on his wounds for secondary infections and hope for the best. Good luck!

I second that (because Ive kept them), theyre usually pretty aggressive unless its a bigger fish its in with, was the bass bigger?
