I can get metal halide bulbs 400w for very very cheap. $5 brand new. If there is enough interest i would be willing to make a purchase and ship them out. There are the high sulfer 400w lights meant to light up parking lots basically, and I know a lot of people in the hobby use some form or another for lighting their larger tanks.

I'd hold off on making a group purchase unless you want to ebay them. The MH bulbs are ballast specific so you would only be purchasing for a portion of MH users. (Also I have been left holding the bag on more than one occasion when people "changed their minds" when it came time to pay up.) Freshwater hobbiests are not likely to use MH setups but you may find more people that are interested in the Marine section.

HPS systems aren't really a good choice for marine tanks because of either lacking K value or Par value (don't remember which). They aren't an efficient source of quality light for the Watts spent.

Thanks for the info.. I was just blown away that I could get $70 bulbs for 5 a piece.. Seems idaho power is replacing the lights for free to customers.

Most people do not use HPS for their tanks... But I do know that some mary-jane growers do... I can't give you my contacts though :) Just kidding, but that would be a market to go into with these things :)

heh lol.. yeah years ago i had a few contacts with some hydros

thats been a long long time ago though.. wow.. funny to think back that far
