Every pet shop here sells methylene blue as some kind of fish medication. It says it helps removes gill flakes etc. I was just wondering, do you guys use it? Any inputs? I dont think I've read any posts on it.

Hello; I have used it in the past. It can permanently stain some things so be careful if you use it. On fingers it stays around for some days. I have seen it used as a disinfectant solution for dip nets at fish shops. Carbon should be removed if you have that in a filter system.

This is commonly used in combination with other medacations but on its own is also used to treat Fungus on eggs, Ich, Saprolegnia and some bacteria (although generally not for use in bacterial infections other than as a bath/dip/quarantine therapy).
It is also effective in treatment of some gill diseases, especially from injury such as ammonia burns, nitrite posining or fluke damage as it transports oxygen allowing for more gill efficiency as well an aintiseptic aid in the healing of tissue damage.

Methylene Blue can also treat some protozoa although only a mildly effective for this it is more effective when used in combination treatments.

Paraphrased and condensed discription.

Can I use it with salt so I can give a salt bath + methylene blue treatment to new fish? Or would that be too stressful to fish? Thanks for the info. :)
