Well i have a male and female Metriaclima Bombardoi together right now and the male has dug a pit under a cave made out of slates. The male is chasing the other cichlids away from the cave and when the female comes near him he starts SHAKING crazily and the female goes into the cave with him then comes back out...and the male only shakes to this 1 particular female i have in the tank. Are they breeding or spawning? The Male tries showing off by flaring out his dorsal fins and colors deepens....What happening here? Its pretty interesting to watch tho since i have no clue of what their doing but thinking of the breeding/spawning rituals...

Give it some time for answer it will come...
It can be breeding or trying to show who is dominate in the tank. Looks about the same. The spawning will look like they are nipping at each others anal fins.

Are they the only 2 in a tank together?? If there is only one female the male will often stress her out, Just watch and make sure the male doesn't harass her too much if shes getting nipped alot and looking beat up you might want to seperate them...
