So this week from Monday-Friday I'm vacationing on Anna Maria Island on the west coast of Florida (I'm originally from NY so this is some well needed R&R). Upon going to the beautiful beach which is about 1000 feet from my motel I step in the clear blue water and see something every MFK breeder loves to see: A mother and father (I am unfamiliar with SW fish but they were silver, cichlid shaped, and about 6" in length each with fry about 2" each) of some sort of fish with their 20 or so fry. My girlfriend and I sat down in the water (about 6-12" deep) and just observed them from about 1-3 feet away MAX for over 15 minutes. The parents came over and would posture at my feet constantly, talk about paradise. Tomorrow ill be bringing my camera and goggles to see if I can identify them, but thought I'd share my excitement here. Truly a perfect start to our vacation :-)

I love that you get that geeked out about seeing a fish at the beach in florida. Being from NY myself, you forget how awesome and omnipresent nature is elsewhere.

awesome story man! i hope you can get some pics :) have fun on your vacation :)

I live in Florida and feel I don't get to experience this sort of thing nearly enough. Makes you feel closer to nature.

Enjoy your vacation and I hope you get to see even more wonderful things here. :)
