I was just contemplating how to move some of my larger catfish and figured I'd see what everyone else was using. Please post pics/brand/size of the nets you use to capture your beasts! ~Trent
To move large cats, wouldn't it be better to scare them into a bucket or thick super duty trash bag? Or a pillow case with tow open sides? Netting large cats could cause damage to em.
The bucket idea won't really work because the catfish I'm talking about are 18"+ and most 5 gallon buckets are only about that tall give or take a few inches.
The pillow or HD bag would be good if it was in a pond but its a little hard to do in my 240 gallon because of the height of the tank and other stuff in the tank obstructing my ability to get the catfish out quickly, tank cross bracing and huge driftwood
If you use the fine mesh nets their fins don't get caught or if you use the large rubber landing nets like for fishing its to big to hang their fins up either.
Right now I might just have to drain the water way down and grab him carefully like I would a channel catfish or something to get him out and into the ice chest full of water to move him across the house but I was hoping someone had a good net suggestion to make life easier ~Trent
i moved my 18" aro and 3-12" p bass with a trout net.its deeper then most.
i have a pic on mfk if ya want it dug up.
in my ponds i use shrimp nets "pole net with the round part about a foot and a half round"
Shrimp net might be a good option, I'm going to swing by bass pro shops and check out the rubber landing nets dimensions to see if that will clear my cross bracing on the tank and I'll look for those shrimp nets also. They are fine mesh right like a big aquarium net? If so either of those will probably be what I use because it will be handy for the pond also ~Trent
grap him and run hahah, your best bet would be at the course fishing shop tell him what you need it for and he should get the right net, i fish and the are loads of different types to materials they make them for and dont worry they will have a big enough net(atleast mine do) GL
