Miami-Emilia Earhart, Tamiami,Bagget park?

Anyone from Miami ever fish in either Tamiami canals,park or Emilia earhart park or Bagget park?

Heard real unusual cichlids there but have never been to any plan to go . I know they all have huge peacock bass esp Tamiami but my objective is big cichlids but not PB or any bass..

Just to catch take pics of than let go .

what would u use for cichlid fishing?

I caught a few jags on floating lures was planning on using same lure be it 4 inch size or 2 inch size would try both .

The 4 inch size was one I used . I reeled it in slow . Problem is the bass hitting it I dont want any bass at all . If I can find something else bass wont bother with will go with that.

If I go with earthworms,insects than sunfish hit it .

I was catching Tilapia, Mayans, I think a Salvini and a few other cichlids I dont know what they are on NightCrawlers and a #6 hook.

How far did you set the hook below the floater?

1 foot but it was only in 3 feet of water max .. I have a thread showing some of my bigger catches. I took NO pictures of the mayans because they were one right after the otehr 2 inches to about 8 inches...

Okay so roughly keep it off the bottom by 2 feet? If water depth is lets say 6 feet go with 4 feet or no set rule?

I am actually a worm type fisherman but used lures here because they work for big bass but want to try to catch cichlids .

i was using a a spinner .. nothing ... I was using a jig nothing. I went by the bait shop picked up nightcrawlers picked apart one enough to put around the hook and wham. Hit a bass, quiet a few pan fish but probably over 2 days 40 cichlids most being mayans but a few different ones.
