MICE

i've seen some of those videos, and personally i would never suggest feeding your o's mice! i don't think it's a natural food source and feeding them mice may cause other problems later on.

Not only is it not a natural food. It is highly unethical. The mouse drown which isn't humane.

I wouldn't say it is less "humane" than what a feeder fish is having to go through. :)

I do imagine that in the wild, oscars do eat a rodent that falls out of the trees from time to time. I don't think that it would be a healthy choice for a regular offering (too fatty and messy).
People put crap that that on video just to get the sort of rise they are getting out you.

It is less humane. A fish is in its natural environment in the water, a mouse is not.

The fish you are killing by feeding it to another fish.
The mouse you are killing by feeding it to a fish, while drowning it.

I agree with feeding a variety of foods. Mice I don't think form a part of their natural diet. Maybe a small mouse as a 'one-off' might be OK but it's gonna require some good filtration.
It seems feeding a mouse to a fish is more for the owners amusement than that of the fish.

Fish in the wild will most certainly eat any rodent swimming across the water if it will fit in there mouth. I've seen a large mouth eat a rat before so it definately happens. They even make large mouth bass baits that are designed to look like mice. I don't really see any difference then feeding feeder fish. Neither are the best for the fish though. They make aquarium fish food for a reason. I'm not really into killing feeder fish or mice for my own enjoyment.
