I have that, too. First I'll get a brown film of algae, then those white blotches crop up and wipe it all out.
 
You know what I want these threads to do? I want somebody with a PhD to waltz in here and say, "Oh, yeah. That's bacteriosus impressive-name-us and it is commonly found in waterways near farmlands and rural towns." But no. That doesn't happen. It's just you, me, google and endless complex PDF documents to pore through and try to put the pieces together.
 
Haha exactly! If I had a microscope I could do some identification that could help us, and see if it is bacteria of fungus or what.
 
Thanks for the info/research. Those cases seem to be in saltwater however, and these are in freshwater. It could very well be something similar though.
