Hey guys I noticed that my Channa Micropeltes is swimming funny, almost like his back is broken or hurt is this normal?

I also noticed his tail has been nipped but healing slowly, could that be the problem?

He doesn't have much of a personality and just lays on the floor all the time, only come up too breathe and eat

Please help?

Post ur water parameters. Pics if able. Tankmates?

Would say move to another tank if it's being nipped at or stressed bay another fish.

If it's a broken spine. Then it won't correct itself but as long as it tries to eat and act normal nnot like now. Then it should recover but still have a broken back.

Not sure on my water parameters but I do a 30% water change twice a week...

Tankmates are : 2 small datnoids, 1 Mekong catfish, 1 30cm silver aro, 1 15cm Jardini , 1 20cm Senegal poly, 1 knifefish and 1 20cm alligator gar

He only swims funny once he has eaten and 90% of the time lays on the floor...Could it be that his tail has been nipped that's why he swims funny?

I think it has to do with that paroon shark.

If it has aggressive tankmates then most channas will try to hide and be relucatant to be active.

Suggest moving the fish to another tank as a solo fish. Also a lot of Channa need lower temps not tropical like a paroon shark will require.

By the way can't see any issue with the spine in the pic. Maybe a video of it swimming.

Ok thank you buddy will make a plan

Would it be safe for me too move him into this tank with my 32cm channa marulioides?

As my marulioides is a lot more active then my 15cm Micropeltes

Would advise against mixing Channa sp especially if it's sick or acting funny.

Plus not sure how it'll tolerate another new tankmate. It's always unpredictable even if it tolerates other larger fish.

Can you get a platic bin or tote to use as a separate tank? Try that and hope it gets better. Keep temps toward the lower 70's.

Tankmates is why your channa is laying at the bottom, by the way.
It is also the reason your maruloides is doing it from what I see.

Channas don't like tankmates. Maruloides are one of the few who can tolerate some, as long as they remain the top fish, and Micropeltes is the one you never want mixed with anything, ever, including its own species.

You can't just switch your channas from a tank with tankmates to another tank with tankmates and expect other answers than what was already said before.

Don't mix your channas with anything and they will swim happily ever after.
