Anyone ever kept them before? I'm wondering if it would be difficult since they migrate from brackish to marine conditions. Right now I have the opportunity to get a hold of some and wanted to get as much information on them as I could before attempting to keep them. I have access to a 200g cycled marine tank since my friend is getting out of the hobby so I'm fairly certain I'd have the room for them. Any advice would be appreciated.

I've never tried keeping these before but, the Monterey Aquarium had them on display the last time I visited. They were being maintained in high brackish (estuarian) conditions. And, according to the placard, were breeding in captivity under those conditions.

For it's size, this is a relatively short-lived species with an average lifespan of 5 years. So, if you obtain adults at 20-21", don't immediately attribute captive losses to care conditions. Pull scales and do a ring count.
