I scooped out a piece of poop from my new gt this morning. It was hanging off her most of the day yesterday and on the bottom of the tank this morning. So I figured I’d use the scope for the first time today to see what the problem is.

A quick run down.
Just picked up this green terror on Friday.
She is alone in a 55gal tank.
Ammonia - 0
Nitrite - 0
Nitrate - 10
Ph 8.2
Temp 70F currently bringing it up. I had to run out and buy a new heater.

I offered a pellet yesterday and she completely ignored it. So not eating yet.
She acts fine. No clamped fins, just a little shy. She does swim all over the tank checking things out, no hiding or acting sickly.
I just took this. You can see she’s working on another stringy poo.

And these are the pictures I took from the scope. This one is taken at 300x

The “J” looking thing in the top middle is something on my lens. I didn’t have anything on hand to get it off.
I should also add that I didn’t see any movement. Not from these or anything else.
The only thing close I saw in a google search was flukes?
philipraposo1982 philipraposo1982 You are the only one I’ve seen(remember) on here use a scope. Any idea?

I haven’t done any treatments yet. I’d like to avoid blanket treatments and be specific if I can.

I’ll just update this in case I need to look back and see how things turned out. Haha

Whatever that was under the scope before I don’t think was anything sinister. I still haven’t figured out exactly what it was, but I haven’t found anything more. I took three different samples yesterday and not one showed any parasites. Just mucus and some food.

This morning Jades poop is normal. She won’t eat when I drop food in, but if it’s left after lights out she eats. So today I won’t be feeding. I want to get her eating when food is dropped in.
She is such a stubborn butt. Oliver wasn’t even this bad and he was a wc.

She's eating at night because she is either not comfortable due to lack of dithers or the pellets are too hard to swallow. Leave the overhead lights off, and just let ambient room light into the tank. If the tank is not in a room frequented by people, then she will always be skittish until she gets a bit bigger.

You know, I was wondering if that might be a problem. This is the first time in a long while I’ve had a new fish go right in an empty tank. Do you think it would be beneficial to add either my school of giant danios(9) or my kids two glofish?

The tank she’s in is inside the stand on the 135. I just keep the doors open to let light in and so she’s exposed to the activity in the room. I spend 60% of my day in there.

Awesome pics! I am a microbiologist so thats cool to see.I hope it all works out.

I would put dithers that are too large to eat, and the glofish may fit the bill.

What size pellets are you feeding? Sinking or floating?

All my dithers are too big for her to eat. The giant danios are 1 1/2-3” and she is only 3” right now. I’m just not sure what would make her more comfortable. A fast moving big school or two half retarded slow moving tetras. Lol

I’ve offered three different kinds. Sinking that are small enough to fit in her mouth. And two floating. One is round and about the size of a pin head and the other was a medium size stick pellet. I broke that one in half. So you could be right about those ones being too big/hard. But she doesn’t even pick at them when I’m around. Swims right by multiple times completely ignoring it, yet looking like she’s trying to find it. If that makes sense.

Thanks. You might like these pictures then too. I was having a blast trying to get familiar with the microscope and trying to identify what’s normal to make spotting parasites easier.
A type of rotifer. I got a couple amazing videos of this guy and another one.

I haven’t figured out what this is. Any clue?

And I think that guy in the bottom left is a diatom?

More dithers are better than just 2, maybe put all of them in there including the 2 tetras. For her size, a 1-2mm pellet will be fine to swallow. Something like NLS Algaemax pellets would be in the right direction for a "veggie" type pellet for a GT.

Ok, I’ll get schoolers in there for her. Maybe in addition to feeling more comfortable she’ll feel more of an urge to be the first one to eat.
Thank you for your help.
