I'm considering a nice used Nikon microscope for exam of fecal matter, etc for pathogens. No clue about bacterium, but I expect to identify nematodes, and similar sized creatures. I haven't been in a bio lab since 9th grade (1968) when I discovered computers and forgot about the wonders of vivisection on amphibians.

I haven't owned any microscope since I left school in the 70's, so I don't have a clue what magnification would be best, but I'm guessing this 40x to 1000x Nikon would be adequate. I dunno . . . I like their cameras and riflescopes. I assume the quality is adequate. I don't know what power I will need. Is there any point in more power?

Are digital scopes worth buying if I already own a 27" pro-quality monitor and high rez video card for viewing?

My experience with digital zoom cameras leaves me leary. I'm leaning mechanical zoom.
