For some reason, my midas has it out for my firemouth. The FM is basically the only fish that the Midas really tries to pick on. It's a large tank with hiding places. Everytime the FM is in view of the Midas, he immediately starts to rush him. Is there a way that I can reduce the aggression that the Midas has towards the FM? There are other fish including other cichlids in the tank(see sig).

Is there another cichlid that maybe I should add to the tank so the Midas might have some competition which could take the attention off from the FM?

the midas must see the fm as a threat or as competition. i dont think adding any more cichlids will help the midas' mood, they are territorial aggro sons of biches. IMO the only thing you could do to help the situation is rearrange decor and add more visual breaks.

not necessarily. i had a GT who had no competition but he battered an FM everyday until i rehomed the FM. he just hated it, plain and simple. there was no way it was a threat to him with what i had with him.

from what ive read and am expecting myself at some point, your midas is just being a midas. a FM probably has no place being housed with something with that much potential violence. I would remove it because it will eventually die more than likely.
good luck though.

once the midas grows he won't see the firemouth as a threat.
the firemouth will just be the little guy at the bar with an attitude lol.
but the midas will be the quiet guy at the bar with the big swing
and possibly heat under the drivers seat of his car.

:ROFL::ROFL: Who doesn't have heat under there seat... Jk i can't even drive yet. :D

imo, the aggression the midas shows towards the FM isn't going to reduce with age...I'd remove the firemouth...even if the midas stops picking on the fm in front of you there's still a strong likelyhood you wake up one day to a dead fm because it looked at the midas wrong.

Rearranging the entire tank and maybe reducing the temp down to around 74 F really is all you can do to try but there's still no guaruntee that the midas won't snap some night and kill the fm.

I had the same issue with a Midas/RD and two Firemouths.
I had to take the Firemouths to my LFS because I had no other options.
The aggression went on for a month and got worse as the Midas/RD got bigger.
This was in a 180 gal with plenty of hiding places.
