Midas and Devil differences?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
red devils are not as thick bodied as the midas and there lips are larger. both very aggressive as far as temper

both have a reputation of being extremely aggressive but ive never read or heard the story of a mild mannered devil yet.

if you look at the lip shape from above then the midas has a U shape while the devil is more of a V shape.

if both are wild then the devil will have very large thick lips compared to the midas, im unsure how common this trait is on captive bred specimens though.

mature midas can develop large nuchal hump, mistakenly referred to as a kok by some but a kok is a flowerhorn term. from what ive read devils generally dont develop much of a nuchal hump if any recognisible hump at all.

this is what ive picked up from reading here and around the net so please correct me if some is wrong.

+1, except usually the super big lips on the devils are usually lost in captive bred strains but you can still tell from the shape, and pure devils are not supposed to develop a large nuchal hump if you see one that has a large hump than it is more than likely a mix

Mine is actually extremely mild mannered. She is 7.5 - 8 inches, 1 year old, and was sharing her 75 gallon with a 4.5 inch Cuban cichlid very peacefully. Right now they're separated because my tank cracked, and I haven't had a chance to fix it yet, but I've been able to put any cichlid with her so far with no issues. She rules the tank, but she's very much a benevolent leader, lol. Sometimes I wish she'd be more agressive, she's still a touch timid with me.
