My male midas and female red devil have been showing signs that they were about to do it. Today when I got home they have about 200 eggs layed on the inside of a flower pot. I am a little confused as to whether they are the same breed or different breeds? I seem to be getting conflicting info on the web, and in pictures, they seem to be interchangable. Could someone that knows for sure please advise me of this and let me know if I am going to end up with ugly little hybrids or whether I will be OK. I already have enough hybrids in my other tank, and will pull the eggs out if thats what I am going to get. Also, if I decide to let them hatch, I think I should probly move the other tank mates (green terror, red snook) because they are allready super aggressive and I think once the fry come, it will get worse.

Yes, most SA/CA cichlids will interbreed. Midas and RDs are 2 of them. Their eggs will hatch normally. Most red devils or Midas you see in lfs are actually hybrids. Good luck with the fry and watch them grow into future monsters!

Do you have enough room in the tank to seperate them from the other fish as midas make great parents and the fry will feed from mucus on the parents body's for the first few days, but its definitely not a pretty picture watching the midas trying to defend there young from other fish as they are likely to get hurt, this is when midas / RD'S are at there most aggressive. And as the post before states, there is not much difference between the two, you can usually predict the colour from the parents, and will sometimes get a vaiety of the midas colours.
