I’ve been kind of putting off rehoming the female Midas I got from COTA recently. Long story short it was supposed to be a male, then she laid eggs. No big deal, Dan sent me a killer 11” male that I'm thrilled with. I’ve been introducing them into shuffled tank setups off and on to see if they would be compatible... doesn’t seem like it’s going to work out. In between I have been using a reinforced egg crate divider and putting her in a portion of a 125 opposite my tiger Oscar. Both fish about 6-7”.

ANYWAY, today she had enough and apparently bulldozed the divider and then spent some time trying to murder the Oscar. It couldn’t have been more than 20 minutes elapsed since I had seen them both on correct side of tank. By the time i walked back by she had him pinned up in the corner and was giving it to him pretty good unfortunately. She’s in a bucket with an air pump going. Oscar took a real beating - but is now safe and appears to have just suffered a bunch of superficial damage that should heal. Good thing Oscars can take a beating, poor thing.

Summary: Midas female lives up to the species rep, is now going to the LFS in the morning to find her forever home. Oscar now has own 125 permanently.

You sure the Midas is a female? Look like a male with that kok but I could easily be wrong still. Lol ik I got a female FH that's got a big kok on her.

Oh yeah... she laid eggs. Only fish in the tank at the time and she guarded them with her life for a few days. That’s why I was trying to see if the two would match up, she’s a great looking female. But not to be! Lol

Yeah sadly that's how it goes with these big aggressive Cichlids. Sometimes it's a match made in heaven, other times it's just pure unfiltered chaos and destruction.
