What age or size did your male midas start getting the hump?

Another question. This Midas is about 10 months old. I'm guessing its female. What do you think?

Dunno about the sex of that fish but my male midas have generally started showing a hump of sorts around 5-6 inches. The hump development is highly variable in midas IMO. Genetics has a lot to do with it I think.

Your Trimac is very nice in your avatar. I have a trimac, but not that much red on mine. I have been looking for a good midas for years. It seems like everyone on here that has a good looking one got it from petsmart. I ordered a male from Jeff Rapps, so well see.

I use to own a female-It got it's hump at a very small stage-I would say I could dig up pics showing a hump at the 3 inch mark or so......Maybe 4 inch at best....

Are you suprised that this one doesn't have a hump at it's age?

too young yet... if it was a male and had female around may start getting the hump early..but 10 months is still too young for most of them to show a hump.

Ok thats what my research was kind of leaning towards. It actually might be a male then. At what age do males start to get the hump from your experience?

I have a pair from Jeff Rapps and myself and Blue Demp are testing some theories as far as the hump is concerned. From what we are seeing males seem to have larger humps without the females or when around other fish(Midas or otherwise). My Male's hump varies and it seems the more content him and my past males have been, the smaller the hump has been. My female does have a hump that stays consistent while my past Rapps female did not. The male in my avatar's hump was largest without a female and when he was alone. Then when I bred him it shrunk as he seemed to be more content as a father. I Think it is a combinations of things. Genitics and Temperment at the time would most likeluy be the biggest factors. We got a face book group and I think I am going to start the study harder on there. Feel free to join. Here is the most rescent Video. Male is now over 7" and female is 6 1/2". I am most likely going to seperate them because I want them to grow more and for his hump to develop more.
