I'm thinking about getting some midas for my 250 gallon. How do you care for these guys? What to feed them, when, how many times a day. Minimum tank size. (even though thier going in a 250) Max size etc.
Also how many can fit in a 250? If I can only keep one, it's fine with me.
One last questoin, do they have lots of personality?

Wow i just left a response for you to get a midas on your other thread. They need basic water, not to hard. I feed a good quality color enhancing pellet as a staple, diced earthworms, algae wafers, massivore delight, and mine liked lettuce. When mine was 2 inches i fed him 3 times daily. When he hit 6 inches till the day he died he had two square feedings. I kept mine in a 75g which i would consider the bare mininum. You could try getting a group of 5-6 juvies and raise them till you get a pair or just keep the best specimen. finally, yes they have outstanding personalities and will easily become your favorite fish.

Midas come from very hard and alkaline water in nature, but they can handle just about anything in captivity. Pellets are fine for feeding. They are not fussy.

Good to hear, I'm looking forward to pick up a few, to bad their only available at petsmart...

If they're from petsmart they're most likely red devil/midas hybrids.

The only way you could have a 100% midas, is going with a good vendor like rapps.

Tangled up in cichlids, Jeff Rapps. He is one of the vendors on here. He always has quality stock.

Jeff Rapps, Tangled Up In Cichlids. He's a well known breeder/importer in New Jersey. It would cost loads of money to ship though. Ken Davis is another guy who lives in Georgia, so you could get a few from him with cheap shipping.
