I have a had a Midas cichlid for about 3-4 years I got him when he was only a inch, now he is 9 or 10". He has gotten more aggressive lately, I can't walk by the fish tank without him attacking the sides Is this normal? Also he has been doing a lot more digging than usual somebody told me that he is ready to breed?
Thanks

He is territorial and yes it's normal. He is simply trying to chase you away from his territory.

And yes he is certainly ready to breed at that size/age, but he doesn't need to and it won't do anything for his behavior except making him much more aggressive.

The aggressiveness of the MIDAS is truley represented by owner responvness of the fish,..............When you walk by the tank, him chasing you is a healthy sign.........The digging of the gravel is away of keeping busy.......At 10 inches long, finding a mate will not be a safe decision.............Midas and Red Devil need to be raised together from a small size in order to pro create.............Unless you have time to setup a crate wall between the two and see if the male showing no aggessivness, then I would suggest leaving the fish alone as a showcase, not as a breeder................

I raised a red devil with it and they always swam next to each other until one day I came home to find the red devil dead. If I could find a mate what size should a female be?
