The Midas is 6" long. The shrimp is about an inch and looks to be 'sideways' in his stuck open mouth! It has been there like this 20 hours now. Considering using some tweezers to remove or dislodge it.
Procedure over. Not real easy, either. Took two tries to get it out as it was wedged in there good. Had him out of the tank on a towel and a tray. Covered his eyes with part of the towell. Put him back in the tank for 5 mins between tries as it was taking too long. Probably had him out of the tank 3 mins + 2 mins respectively. Every time I would try to grab the shrimp it just kind of fell apart, but finally got it without pulling out pieces of the fish. Looks like a success.
He actually did very well. He's back in the tank and acting fairly normally - chasing my hand, banging the glass, etc. Tough fish. If I did that with my Oscar he's be sulking on the bottom for two weeks.
Good job! My buddies peacock bass 18 inch had a real nice vieja stuck in its mouth, he didnt want to loose the vieja so he also pulled the bass and saved the vieja lol
