I always thought this guy was a midas cichlid that is what i got it as. It acts more like a red devil then a midas. Its very aggressive and protective over its hiding hole. It loves blood worms. It constanly bangs against the divider that i have set up between him and the juvenile jag. Someone Help me out here.

Impossible to tell. Not even guessing at the genetic traits at that size.

It is YOUR fish:)

I'm no expert but I always thought both Midas and Red Devils have a penchant for being fairly aggressive as such and considering that aggression varies from individual to individual I don't think it's a good way of trying to determine an ID. As far as it being a Devil versus Midas or Hybrid I believe Devils and hybrids are more common in the trade than a pure Midas so logically I'd lean toward one of those two. No offense but in my opinion tank bred Devils especially those found in most LFS's aren't any where as impressive as their wild counterparts and not really worth trying to determine a definitive ID as they're of sub par stock. If your seriously interested in a real expression of the species your always better dealing with a specialty vendor such as TUIC or AC. Otherwise the differences are going to be negligible at best between a sub par Devil or Hybrid. I wish you good luck with your little guy as I'm sure if you take care of him well he'll still grow into a impressive looking fish.

Fully agreed with Kolt.

Though i love my sub par monsters :)

Lol! There's nothing wrong with them just my personal preference, look how many people hate my ugly little BP and SB Thaisilk yet I can't help but love them. Fish are about you if you feel a connection I say more power to you and your sub par monster. :D Every thing is a monster in it's own right especially when well taken care of.

There is a sticky at the top of the C/A S/A cichlid forum that talks about differences of Midas and Red Devils I think you would find it worth while to read, I know I did :D

I have to agree with everyone. Lfs without knowing where they got them from is always midevil. Just that sometimes they have more midasy features and sometimes more devil features.

Its looking really nice though. And yes its gonna be a jerk no matter if its midevil. I like its colors though. :)
