Hi there, here are some pic's of some juvie midas but look at the difference of eye color, the color does not change, ever and is not the camera.
I have midas from Jeff Rapps that have black eyes but they are in a different tank and not in these pic's.
The creamcicle midas in the pic's are from Don Conkel and have the blue eye lining.
The other midas have red eyes and are from Pet smart(don't look hybrid to me).
Has anyone ever done some research in this???
Here are the pic's.....SANY0010.JPGSANY0011.JPGSANY0012.JPGSANY0013.JPGSANY0016.JPG

I know Red Devils and Midas have been bred together for many years but is the eye colors a new think?

Hey Ivan, let's see some pics of the big bull creamiscle male that produced those fish! :)

There's a wide variation in eye color in both labiatum & citrinellum, black, blue, yellow, orange, and red can be found in both species. One thing that I have noticed over the years is that quite often white/orange "creamsicle" amphilophus morphs seem to have partial or entirely crystal blue eyes. Out of the 15 juvies of yours that I grew out, only 2 had crystal blue eyes. I kept one of them.

That's a good looking fish you have there , lots of potential!!
thanks for clearing that up for me(R.D).I always wondered about it but never mentioned it and good to know its a natural thing..( i realize the lack of certain pigments must have something to do with it)
Here are some pic's of big daddy blue eyes, lol, this is the best boss fish in the tank...breeds with all females but never really bothers anyone. He's only about 10 inches and due for a growth spurt if he ever stops breeding...

looking at the pic's his eyes look more yellow than blue but I can never seem to get good pic's (lighting and camera)in the big tank...

Almost forgot to mention the weird shape on the back of the dorsal fin is because he let his fry eat him.....I guess I wasn't feeding enough food to the fry so he let them eat him, I pulled him out as soon as I noticed and the fry survived on there own....talk about a devoted parent....you can really see it in the third pic...

That male creamsicle is looking good, Ivan. Hopefully one of mine end up looking as nice as their father.
