Hey there everybody,

I hope you all are having a good weekend. I have a question about Midas growth rate. I have two 3" juvies, and the one I've had longest (about 3 weeks) hasn't grown much at all... maybe a quarter of an inch. She is definitely the more dominant of the two that I have. They are in a divided 55 gallon tank. Water quality and filtration are excellent, and I do a 50% water change once a week. They are on a varied diet of Hikari Staple, Hikari Gold, NLS, frozen brine shrimp, spirulina pellets, and frozen bloodworms.

The ballpark figure I've always heard for Midases is 1" per month. What am I doing wrong? Could it be I just have two females and they grow slower than males? The pH of my water is at 8.0 (the high range of what's suggested for them) and I thought that might also be playing a factor. I'd appreciate any advice or ideas you all might have for the slow growth rate.

P.S. They are in a divided 55g temporarily. I'm moving my 90g tank down here this Christmas, which one of them will be moved to depending on gender, aggression, etc.

I have a RD/midas who Ive had for about a month now and hes probably grown about an inch.
I feel him a mixture of normal staple pellets, krill pellets, bloodworms, feeder guppies and feeder crays. Maybe throw in some feeder crays? My guy loves them plus sometimes they become friends :D like I have 2 in there now that he doesnt touch but still kind of play fights them lmfao. Plus, youll really notice him/her bulk up when you start feeding them the feeders.

Most of all try to get "clean" feeders I try to pick them up from the shop, quarentine them for a week or two then feed them to him.

Goodluck.

Okay thanks for the suggestion. I actually have some guppy fry that I am raising and have offered to both fish. One of my Midas loves going after them, but too often the giant danios do away with them before the Midases even know they're there. Sigh...
I'll keep trying that, thanks!
