Midas Head Bang

I have a 8'' midas that is constantly banging his head on the top of the aquarium. He does it with such force that it makes a very loud sound. He also does it so much that his nuchal hump gets all red. What I'm wondering.....is...why does he do this and how can I get him to stop (it wakes me up in the middle of the night)?

He's just acting like a Midas. What about lowering the water level?

Mine spends his day picking up and spitting out sand, but he's 13 inches and 8 years old lol

He might grow out of this stage in a couple months

It's very common for a solo Midas to do that, and there's not really anything you can do. How many gallons is your tank? Some fish are particularly crazy if their tank isn't very big.

honestly I had plenty big guys to this I believe its out of bordem PLAY WITH HIM I"m serious get him some floating plastic toys for you to mess around with an occupy himself IT REALLY DOES WORK

I had to lower the water level cause my guy dislocated his jaw.
I had glass top on that tank & he would always try to attack his reflection.
The bang always had me & my dog jumping out of bed.
Waking up to a flood is the worst feeling.
He still bangs sometimes when he's hungry, but not as hard.
I guess he figured it hurts when he bangs too hard.

he's in a 55. even when he was in a bigger tank (125) he banged the top.
anyways..thanks everyone for the replies

My Chancho bites the glass anytime someone gets too close to the tank. Makes a loud screeching noise like running your fingernails across a chalkboard.
