An island somewhere......
I'm making my way back into CA's again and after deciding which "wet pet" to get my daughter I decided to go with a Citrinellus (Midas). I won't say who I ordered the fish from since that may or may not influence your decision. I don't think this is a pure midas although it is still young at 6"-6.5". Look at the slightly larger lips (not as fleshy as a pure Labiatus but not as less pronounced as a Citrinellus). And the snout seems a bit more pointy then blunt. Has me wondering.... it's suppose to be a pure Midas and I'd hate to question the breeder but I'd like other opinions before it eats me up inside.

Realize it is very hard too tell visually between the two fish especially small specimens. If the breeder is reputable I would go with it being a Midas. Doesn't look any more like a red devil than a Midas too me.

rrcoolj, I typically do just go with the reputation but wanted to get a second/third opinion. I don't want to invest the time into growing it out to have it be something I didn't want.

You already posted you got them from Dan at COA. ;)

Looks nice, there's two stickies on the topic you should read first.

Thanks. From what I recall... I posted that I was getting Viejas from Dan. And yes, I did see/read the stickies (along other internet info.) on Midas/RD prior to posting this thread..... been around this forum long enough to do my research before posting redundant threads. Just looking to get a 2nd/3rd/etc. opinion and other member's perspective... a discussion, not a debate or finger pointing.

Was it sold as WC, F1, and/or was there a collection location given?

6-6.5" is still fairly small. As they age the slope of the face tends to disappear.

Here's my F1 male from Rapps, at about 5-6". Looking kind of "beaky."

You can see the difference in shape.

If you want to see the full progression look Here.

No one can tell you the genetics of the fish you've got, but there is more than a passing chance it's pure. There could also be a good chance that it's not, and you have to trust that your source is honest.
