I'll bet setting up a 125 soon, and I have been wanting a nice midas for a long time. I didn't have the heart to cram one in my 75, but the 125 will be adequate.

My girlfriend wants the tank to have some variety, though. Is it possible to have a few other, smaller cichlids in with the midas? I need advice from people who have kept these fish, or tried themselves. I was thinking maybe a couple of rainbow cichlids, a GT, something along those lines. Or, would I be better off with something that could better hold its ground against the midas, like a black belt or jag or something?

Thanks guys.

If they are all raised together it has the possibility to work. I've had midevils and Midas in semi community type setups with cons and gt before. Another large aggressive cichlid might be seen as a threat and cause some issues.

My Midas pretty much left most non cichlids alone. Pretty much hit or miss with other cichlids really. Totally depends on individual temperament.

Thanks, and beautiful festae JC!

Anyone else who has tried it?

My midevils have always left significantly smaller tank mates alone. They have given chase a few times to hog food during feeding time but other than that, no issues at all

Kept a midas in my 210 and he was beautiful. Nice hump great color and I grew him out from about an inch and a half. He was low man on the totem pole and my 2 texas and polleni left him alone.when he hit the 6" mark he challenged everyone and became the alpha. Wouldn't kill anyone but made them all hide and even picked at my vampire pleco's fins. Really wished it would've worked out cuz I really liked him. Just depends on the fish and the tank mates imo.
