My first midas. Its about 2.5 inches. How do you sex these guys? I feed 2 kinds of pellets two kinds of flakes bloodwoorms, brineshrimp, krill, mysis, and spirulina. I change it up every week and feed 2 or 3 times a day. I do 25 percent water change twice a week. So with all that considerd how fast should I expect this guy to grow? Like I said this is my first midas and it will all be new to me.

nice midas.

looks like you're doing everything right, they are hardy fish. expect them to grow about 1" every month (they grow fast) till they reach about 9-11" then it will slow a bit.

only sure way to sex them at that size is shot of the vent.

Alright thanks. I will just wait and see what I got. That's because I don't know how to vent I have never done it before.

basically you take your fish out of the tank, turn it upside down. i believe the males vent shape should look like a V and a females is rounded.

or you can wait ;) these guys don't take long at all to grow. i have a few myself your size and they seem to be growing in front of my eyes.

:iagree:100%. They grow fast for the first year, then slow down. So make sufre to feed him/her well to get the most out of that year. I have a pair from Rapps that seem to be growing abit slow. Their offspring is already about the size of his mother at 6months which leads me to beleive they are already at their year mark. Just feed anytime he is hyngry until full and keep up the water changes. GL and enjoy.

fish_n_vw,
Nice barred Midas! Did you find it locally? If so where?

Since getting back into the hobby after some 20+ years most of the great little independent shops like Tropical Fish Imports are now gone. Where are you going?

I would love to find a nice barred one. I live in middle georgia and have almost no good LFS. I hear Rapps is the place to go.

The best part about growing a midas out, is how much they change as they grow.
