Picked up a large male Midas a few days ago and it had an injury on its face. The owner said it was caused by breaking a heater. It looks like a deep gash across his forehead. Should I be worried about it? Any tips to help it heal? He's very aggressive and trying to get at me through the glass so he seems ok.

Salt and clean water. Should start to get it to heal esp from a heater burn.

How long has it been there do you think?

Honestly I have no idea, the way the guy said it sounded like it happened recently. I've had him for a few days now and he hasn't eaten, hopefully just still taking time to settle in.

It sounds a little suspicious. Don't look like heater burn and looks like it's been a there a while. They have some depth on the photos.

It can easily be the case but a little strange to me.

Yea keep the temp at about 78.

Salt, 1tsp per gallon, and clean water for now. Can even try a little hydrogen peroxide on a qtip (dab)to the area and place back into the tank. Make sure it eats and update the thread.

Best of luck.

Looks like the start of an infection to me... q-tip with H2O2, as previously stated, could help.

clean water will go a long way. would consider a little diluted betadine topically
