I just picked up this new guy a couple of days ago, i decided to trade in my baby dovii as i could not provide a giant tank for when it grows up and it killed my other red devil grow out :irked:.

This little guy is 3" or there about.

with that mouth and lips, it looks red devil to me, and since it hasnt been fed hormone induced foods to make it peel early, chances are high that it may actually be a pure labiatus, and on an off topic question, what kind of plecos are those? they look pretty cool

Thanks for the info, It would be nice having a pure devil. The big pleco is a common ( or meant to be lol) an the one behind the filter stem is a chocolate Pleco both cool fish.

oh really? thats cool, yeah he looks really cool for being a common one, actually makes me want to go out and see if i see any interesting ones at the store

Unfortunantly unless from a reputable source that can trace back where the fish came from, it will most likely be a hybrid. In this ones case I would say genes are definently Lab dominent. However, will be to tell much easier when s/he is older. Regardless if it is pure or a hybrid, you can NEVER go wrong with Amphilophus. Congrats on the nice pick up.

:iagree: 100%. Without killing the fish to do DNA testing there is no way to definitively say this fish is either labiatus or citrinellus. It definitely has more prominent characteristics of labiatus but unfortunately that's about as decisive as you can get. Definitely a nice fish though and can't wait to see how he/she turns out :)

I have to agree with Jason and Scott. Does have the classic blue devil appearance of the barred labiatus, but no way to be 100% without knowing the lineage. I can tell you it is an awsome looking fish that I'm looking foward to see when it's grown. GL
