once again a bit of a mystery fish. I'm guessing there is no way to 100% positively ID this fish (or is there?)
mIdas, labiatus, or neither.

Looks very labiatus, but without knowing where it came from no way of knowing it's pure. Ken
i agree, and its pretty much what everyone else is going to say as well, but either way its a great looking fish :)

midas, red devil or neither? you forgot "or both" ;) lol. most likely it's a cross of the 2 but it definitely has more labiatus features at this point. however as has already been said there's no way to know for sure.

^Midas do look almost the same. What size was it?

this fish is about 5". its a male I believe but not positive. It was sold as red dragon flowerhorn female x giant solid orange fish with massive nuchal hump male. I assumed the male was a midas due to the massive nuchal but never saw the photos myself. its siblings were either flowerhorn looking or midas/labiatus looking nothing in between. With parents like that he is quite congenial. I'm guessing at his size if he were to develop a large nuchal hump it would have happened by now?

not necessarily, i have a pure male midas (what i have vented as male but im not experienced enough with venting for it to be 100%) who is ~4.5in and is only just now starting to show red pre-peeling stage colors and doesn't have a nuchal hump yet. some are just later bloomers lol
