Is there a way to visually tell if I have midas cichlid or a red devil? I ended up getting a supposed Midas from a friend and I would like to know if it is a devil or a Midas. What are the differences?:cool-1:

Theres not really a difference in them except maybe the color. And you are in the wrong topic. This should be in the central american cichlid section.:cool-1:

these are central/south american cichlids not african, I will move this for you. I dunno much on them though. I know that Midas are bright orange color =)

there is no way to tell 100% for sure which species it is without DNA testing. You may be able to see characteristics that resemble a true midas or a true devil, but without testing there's no way to know for sure. :)

there is no way to tell them apart i think they are the same fish call a ickthyoligist

They aren't the same fish but they are very similer. I have noticed that true devils end to be more elongate and not as tall and they have larger lips. The difference is very difficult to spot, if it's even there at all.
