i picked up one today its like 4.5" long, what size do they start growing humps if they are male. it has a small one right now, but i dont know if its male of feamle. an i was told females could have small humps on their heads. an it digs a lot!!

it depends most males that will have a big nuchual hump will start developing them at around 5"... While others as late as 10"... I have some fry Im growing out the dominant male was showing a hump at 4"

All depends on the fish. My current Male has a descent hump, while his father's was almost non-existent. The mother however would grow a hump the size of a ping pong ball right before breeding. All depends on the fish. My current guy put more effort into getting large then growing a hump. Now that he is closing in on full size his hump has really come in. Good luck

thanks for the info guys. how hard is it to sex them, i was told you can sex them by if they have long pointed fins?? is that true, cause mine dose.

No, sorry fins are not a good indicator either. You will have to wait until he is a bit larger to vent him. Only sure way to do it.

That is the worst way to sex midas/rd's.. the only way to sex them is to vent them
