Midas/Red Devil Breed

I have a female red devil and a male midas. The female is about 5-7" nose to tail and the male is a couple inches larger. My female keeps on laying eggs but there is no male in her tank to fertilize them. I was wondering if i could put in my midas to fertilize the eggs or will it not work?

Also if it can work, how do i put them together so they wont beat the crap outta each other?


Theyre each in their own 29 gallon tanks. I know its too small for them but i'm planning to trade them both to a friend for his 60 long soon. Im totally new to cichlids so the eggs got me really excited.
 
I think the tanks are to small to add one to the other. If you did do it though, which I don't advise you would want to get a divider so they could get used to each other first.
 
The tanks they're currently in, are definitely too small - I wouldn't personally risk adding them, the male will likely just kill the female in such a small tank. Even a 60gal is much smaller than I would recommend for a breeding pair of RD/Midas.

As for if they will, yes, the two breed will definitely spawn together. That being said, you likely have mixes of the two anyway. Unless you've had these fish specially ordered as pure species from a very reputable breeder, its almost guaranteed that they're both actually mixes of the two. Its very rare these days to find a pure fish of either species in a store, though its not necessarily impossible.

my midas is gonna be in a 75 solo when grown, and thats pretty much the minimum tank size recommended. so 100+ seems close. way more than 29 each for good.

a divider should get em started, maybe even with a hole cut to fit the female for some easy access/escape. good luck
 
Yeah, for a breeding pair of adult Midas/RD, I'd say at least 100gal, 125 if you can.
