Here is my fish:

Do you think he is a Midas as I was told when I got him or red devil or mix?

I'm pretty sure GodsDead's fish is not a flowerhorn, I think it's just faded towards the back. My xiloaensis from Jeff Rapps has the same kind of coloration, but Jeff definitely did not sell me a flowerhorn. The fins of Godsdead's fish do look kind of suspicious though...

WOW, that's gorgeous man.

There is no way to know for sure the only differance i have ever seen is on wc devils have the big lips and i have read that the midas is where the white coloration comes from. Unless u are a icthyoligst and have well studed the amphilaphus speicies or u have bought a wc fish from a reputable dealer no one can tell which it is. The grainy, blurry, photo of a baby fish goes no where as well i would say u have a nice red devil because i perfer that name over midas.

IT'S no big deal but i will have to call BS:bs: on the being able to tell the fish speicies by body shape on the 2 types in question here any how.

big train is correct.

where did you get this fish- that is a major indication on what it is-

LFS- hybrid
Rapps- real deal, RD or midas.

Not trying to offend you.. I'll just sit here and wait for somebody to back me up. The fish in your avatar is a purebred male midas by the way. I can tell by its body shape. Midas have bigger foreheads, red devils get bumps, but not like midas.

Well i have a spawning pair of devils and the fish in my avatar [his name is tush hog] is their offspring. I bought tush hog's father labeled as a midas from a lfs and his mother labeled as a red devil from a different lfs. I think that both of these parent fish share both midas and devil lineage. So to say that tush hog is pure midas is just not correct most fish in the hobby labeled devil or midas is really both unless u get the fish imported and evan then i would take the labeling with a pinch of salt.

You cannot tell visually the genetic makeup of a midas or red devil. Unless you're God. But I guess he's dead.
