My midas cichlid has been swimming upside down for about a week. At first I wasn't alarmed because he was eating and he could swim straight but hes been getting worst. I have a 125 gallon tank with 3 red devils, 1 jack dempsey, 1 Jaguar and a gibbiceps pleco. They are all acting normal except the midas. I would give u guys the water perimeter but im color blind so test kits are pretty much useless for me unless i have someone else match the colors for me.
I'm sure its swim bladder disease from watching youtube videos of fish with the disease. Reading up on it said its caused by high protein foods, a bacteria, virus or poor water quality. I've eliminated the bacteria or virus as a cause because all my other fish are acting fine and if it was one of those wouldn't they all be affected? I'm thinking its the food i never presoaked my pellets but i do now reading up on prevention of the disease.
What i've done so far is tried to feed it peas, i stopped feeding him yesterday (except peas) and plan on starving him for 4 days, im doing water changes everyday and i added epsom salt. I also raised the water temperature to 80 (read somewhere it could help). I'm going to get a friend to read my test kit so i can post water perimeters.
I love this guy ive had him for 5 years and i really wanna save him. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
