hi i have a couple of adult very ice midas cichilds, they look very nice and are constantly breeding, and i still have some frome the first batch, and they are big nice and getting pretty orange, still showing some bars... this all seems normal...

the other day i went to a pet shop and i saw a midas cichild half the size of my small ones, about the size of the batch before this last one, he was about 4 cms and his full orange... i bougth it, ut it is really strange that my other small midas twice it's size are still getting their colours...

does anyone know why this could be?
this new one looks like he never had any bars...

it's a male for shure...

could it be that my old ones had a barred sowhere in theyr lignage?

it is strange...

:iagree: I have a pair and have raised alot of fry:headbang2 mine turn color at between 1-2" and sometimes the smaller ones show color befor the more mature looking ones.lol

Well, being in a pet store long enough will almost certainly stunt the growth of most fish. That's if they're stuck in there long enough in a 10 gallon tank with about 10 other same sized fish.

I've heard that the longer it takes for a red devil/midas to get their color, the larger they will grow. I've only read this a few times on different forums and I don't know how true it is so take that for what it's worth. that being said, about every red devil/midas I've seen in an lfs is already colored up even at 2" or less.

What about other fish like Rt's or GT's? how soon should they color up?
