so i know that dovii take awhile to mature/get aggressive/get personality/"click" etc.so i was wondering would i ne able to keep a midas/red devil in the tank with the dovii for a few months until the dovii reaches 8-10 inches.
a. i reckon the midevil will kill the dovii
b. i reckon the dovii will kill the midevil
c. they both get along until the dovii snaps

How big are they? And tank size? As said above at least 8 youngsters in a large tank should be fine but you occasionally get real nasty smaller fish... All fish are different, if they are opposite sexed they might even pair up...

Add extra cichlids, maybe even something bigger to keep em in check. Possibly a local rescue of the classifieds of something semi aggressive and 12 inch, Veija or oscar maybe.

yeah i might add a big oscar for a while. i havent got them yet just waiting for them to get a little bigger some guy has them on classifieds but theyll be about 3-4 inches

ur gonna need to have more than silver dollars or loaches. those are targetfish, meant to bring shy fish out of hiding. Dithers are things like other cichlids that will help disperse the aggression in the tank. u need dithers.

id recommend a group of convicts, they are cheap, not huge, they wont necessarily challenge the dovii(the main threat obviously) but they can defend themselves really well and they are feisty little ****s. LOL, maybe get a pair or two and they will hold their own in my opinion. also u can just go with a bunch more midas

single male 12 inch dovii vs 6-7 inch paired barred midas was no contest, not even when the barred midas was attempting to spawn. Tank was 250g. they were fine when the Dovii was 9-11 inches, when he hit 12 inches, all the other fish had to be removed
