I'd says he's 2-3 years old. Should I stop waiting for a nuchal hump to appear?

Yeah maybe it's female. I don't think she will ever get a hump.

***75 Gallon*** 1 Flowerhorn, 1 African Rope Fish and 1 Musk Turtle, ***60 Gallon*** 2 Angelfish, 1 Knight Goby, 1 Rainbow Goby, 1 Blue Gourami, 1 Glo Fish,1 Columbian Spotted Pleco and 4 Giant Danios ***

Both my Chancho and Midas females have big humps!

Put in some males in the tank with him and poof!

Does it have any tankmates?
Many times in cichlids the hump develops only as a sign of sexual dominance, and/or breeding status.
Sometimes, depending on the individual, it just develops without stimuli.
If there are no tankmates, there may be no impetus or need to develop.
If other tankmates are male, same scenario.
Dominant females will occasionally develop a hump.
female haitiensus with a dominant male in the tank

same female without male, but juvies in the tank with her

he alone in his tank. before he came to me he killed a few tank mates and his gf so ive just always left him alone.
i think that might have something to do with it but ive so many lone amphs with nuchal humps.

If conditions remain the same in his current environment, I think it's safe to say that he probably won't develop a significant nuchal hump. I was always under the impression that RD's have more of a stream-lined predatorial build, as opposed to the big/bulky Midas shape with nuchal humps. Although he's a Midevil, maybe his genes favor more on the Labiatus side. Either way, he's a great fish!

Nice lookin fish, I think it might look odd with hump, I prefer no humps. But that's me

Thats a good guess right there i agree. When it comes to the midevils theres no way to know which genes/traits will end up being more dominant.. the RD or the midas.. and to the OP, yours appears to to take after the RD. I'll tell ya though, i had an awesome midevil that was 10" when i got him and he had no hump. I kept him alone in a 75 and i started putting a mirror at the side of his tank for like 30 mins everyday and he'd flare and it and freak out and after doing this for several weeks, i kid you not, a hump started to appear. In my opinion it came down to dominance. Everytime he "fought" with his reflection, when i took the mirror away it made my fish feel like he just succeeded in chasing away a threat to his territory thus making him feel more dominant which caused some nuchal growth. Thats just my guess. It didn't grow huge (which is nice i don't really care for the look of the massive humps) but it was a perfect size. give that a try see what happens!
