I have a 90 gal with 2 bristlenose plecos, 3x5"heckels acaras, 3x4" bala sharks, a small bgk, 4"indo and dante my 10" fire eel. I need upper level swimming fish that stay a good size had giant danios but my indo wanted to eat them. Saw a small 4-5" spotted gar and was tempted but i know it will get too big too fast.

My question i want to put to you is what can i get or what have other people had that will stay near the surface.

no ideas?

Arowana usually stay in the top half of the tank, but will probably be too much for your tank.

It sounds like you have a solid stocking level already. I found that with my tank, when I added a ton of driftwood and crap on the bottom, all the fish started spending more time midwater and near the front. I dunno if this was a comfort level thing with all the hiding available, or if the cluttered bottom just sends them to midwater in search of free swimming space.

silver dollars for mid water, giant hatchetfish (Triportheus angulatus), also t. culter, or best T. elongatus, for topwater.
