So through some trading I might be getting a 150 tall (4'x2' and the hight is 30" or 3', something like that.) Currently, my biggest tank is a 125 (6'x1.5'x2'). The inhabitants are a pair of midas (10" and 8") and a pair of jags (8" and 6"). I am probably getting rid of the midas pair soon, since it has been difficult to get rid of the fry (if I had more fish to feed them to, it wouldn't be a problem).

I really want to get a pair of Amphilophus chancho, will either tank be big enough? I know they get big, but I'm thinking they would look great in the 150 with some nice driftwood, sand, and maybe some plants if they will allow it. Filtration will probably be a sump, since I will have a 29g available. I don't plan on having tankmates.

Also, I was wondering if you think a 125 is big enough for a pair of Amphilophus lyonsi and Parachromis Loisellei? I would probably be willing to get rid of the jags if that would work.

Thanks for your input!

imo a 125 is too small for a pair of jags. if you like parachromis then get the P. Lois they are much smaller then jags and seem to grow slower. i personally would want a tank with a width of at least 2 feet when housing med - large cichlids.

I've heard a lot of people say a 125 is the bare minimum for a jag pair. Either way, I realize that if the male gets over about 16"-17" it wont be ideal since the tank is 18" wide.

Will a pair of p. Loisellei and a pair of a. Lyonsi work in a 125? I'm thinking since they are both supposed to be on the more docile side (compared to other similar species) and max size for males seems to be 12" or less, that it may work.

Anyone? All I need to know is if you think a 150 is enough for a pair of chanchos, and if a 125 is enough for a pair of lyonsi and a pair of Loisellei. Thank you.
