Hello, All I might be getting my first stingray from Nate at MA. Now I have never owned a stingray before and would like to go with a motoro. I do have some ?'s of course. Now I want to buy the motoro as a baby like 3-5'' can I keep with the fish in the 150??(Silver aro, SD'S, Clownknife, Port cichlids, and Jaguar catfish) What would/should I feed the ray?? What should I keep the P.H like? I usually have it around 6.5-7.2. Do I do water changes every other day like discus?? Also can you post some shots of your motoro.

i wish i had the time to set up a ray tank

Ok, but how is that going to help me?

Research research....read some of Miles stickies in the stingray forum if you haven't already. If the ray is that small, of course you can keep it in a 150 gallon for around 2 years or so. Do realize that a motoro will need a bigger tank for their entire life, roughly around a 7x4x2. The bigger the happier your ray is (assuming your water is perfect!). As for feeding try some chopped night crawlers or blood worms. After that you can move them to whatever you want them to eat IE raw shrimp, pellets, fish fillet and such. Keeping a ray isn't as difficult as most people make it seems like, its just that you need dedication into making your water pristine for the rays.

I'm guessing your CK, and your silver is around 3"-5" ish. If that is the case you should be good as far as them living together but don't take my word for it.

As for an idea on water changes done on my 180 gallon, this is my schedule and keep in mind that my water parameters are perfect except nitrate at a low 5ppm-15ppm. I do around 10 gallons of water changes a day, 7 days a week alone on this tank. But I also feed them usually every other day OR a whole piece of raw shrimp per fish.

Your PH right now should be perfect for the ray. I will post some pictures of my motoros later tonight.

Any other questions you had in mind? :)

Thanks for the info. Now do rays just stay at the bottom all the time? How much should I pay for a motoro?

A small motoro at that size can go anywhere from $60-$125. It all depends on the seller, but Nate will certainly hook you up. :D

No, they actually don't stay at the bottom all the time. My male motoro is all over the tank and constantly swims up and down the side walls of my tank. He even lets me pet him and hand feed him! (kind of scary when he goes upside down to get at the shrimp I'm holding). Just remember to be careful when handling a ray as the next move you make might just make you head to the ER.

rays will swim all over the place but for the most place they will stay on the bottem. Depends on the location on price anywhere from 100-200 depending on if they are imported or captive bred. Cichlids are normally a no no with rays, they normally go for thier eyes
