I've been itching to get an FH for while and I wanted to ask a few things before pulling the trigger.

I have a 60 gallon tank I'll be using and was wondering if this size tank would be appropriate for a single Bonsai/Short body FH?

I have very good filtration in place for this already and plan on doing 50% WC weekly like my other tanks.

When it comes to tank setup - I've noticed many FH keepers run bare bottom tanks w no decor. Is this just for keeping the tank clean or are they prone to run into things?

Lastly, I know this might sound strange but are there any types with a smaller kok? Not that this matters a lot to me but I think I tend to like the ones that are not crazy big better.

Thank you in advance!

Shortbody would be perfect for 60 gallon. I cant stand smart, territorial cichlids in bare bottom tanks. Flowerhorn love to dig and sift the substrate. An empty glass box with nothing to do but be spooked by your own reflection from below is a terrible way to live.

Personally I am not a fan of short body/bonsai as they look odd/fat and more than sometimes have health issues. Small kok fish would actually save you some money.

Thank you for the comments everyone^

Any online places you'd recommend to buy from?

Noted, I too prefer to have some kind of substrate. I was just wondering if there was a specific reason for this. Kind of like it is suggested to not use pebbles with bichirs as they are prone to choking on them when eating type of thing

On the display tanks I like to keep a little sand or gravel for them to move around. If you put decor in just avoid sharp objects. The gold base I've played around with are pretty low level in the kok department. I haven't really groomed any as of yet, but pretty confident the kok's won't get huge like the zz's. Here are a couple I bred and pretty sure this is it on kok. Brothers from the same clutch.
