Sorry if this is posted in the wrong section.... Well anyways, my mom tells me she went to look at a house 1 mile away from ours, and shes just seemed interested in it( This was a few weeks ago). Now around a week ago, I went to see it with her. It is a summercamp that is winterized right on the water.(Im on water already). It is much smaller than our house but their is more places that can be winterized. We've decided on giving me a small garage and making it into my own room.(kinda weird but awesome. It is two stories. I dont know what changed her mind, but if we move, she is thinking of letting me get a big fishtank.( I personally think she will let me, thats y im even mentioning this). She also knows I mean big. A few years back I was going to get a huge fish tank, I think like 240 gallons, but we figured out our floor is not strong enough. heres my chance

Now heres my questions:
Im thinking about dimensions of: 6 by 6 by 2 or 8 by 4 by 30"
It would be housing stingrays and gars for sure(among other things)
What dimension do you think is better or what are better dimensions?
Where can I order a tank of this size? Glasscages.com? Someplace better? Or another option is working with my uncle to build it. Hes really good at building things, has offered to build a tank before, and with some general directions, we could get it done. Would this be a good idea?
Anybody have good directions for DIYS aquariums? Is going to be a barebottom aquarium.

For filtration: I was thinking 2-Fluval Fx5s and a sump of like 125 gallons.
Would this be sufficient? Any ideas on how to build a good sump? Better ideas?
Heating: Not sure where to get heaters big enough? Any ideas?

Stocking ideas?

Pictures of setups you have that are big?

Any advice welcomed

Thx

6x6x2 would be better, as it has more bottom area, which gar and stingrays both need. However, buying a tank that is 6x6 is not feasible, IMO, because if it were glass, it would be insanely heavy, and if it were acrylic it would be insanely expensive. I would think the most reasonable approach to this would be an indoor pond - a wooden frame with a pond liner inside. This would save you thousands of dollars ;) Finally, i would think that having FX5s and a sump would be pointless. I would just go with a sump, and put all the filtration in there. That woudl also save you 100s of dollars ;) Good luck :)

I don't like ponds. IMO, ponds are pointless for tropical fish because you can only see the above view of them. BTW my uncle could make me that tank for around 1200

Thx for the suggestons though

no, but she put a offer on the house.

6'X6'X2' is better for the fish but realistically both are great imo. 6X6X2 is basically an indoor pond with a glass front for viewing. 8'x4'x30" is a better viewing tank but I believe it is nothing to complain about the loss of 4sq/ft of tank bottom for all the extra viewing area you will have. personally I think go with just a sump it is alot cheeper than adding alot of other filters to the tank. I hope that if you go ahead with it you take lots of photos and share it in the DIY section on here.
