Might be throwing in the cichla towel

Well guys I think the time has come, I may be done with cichla. I've now realized that this is not really a long term hobby. It's fun to keep them when they're small but once these guys become monsters it's not so fun anymore unless you have a HUGE tank. It's too much work to stay on top of things just to be able to keep the fish healthy.

I also now know why some of the main players have down sized and moved on. It's been fun, and while I would love nothing more than to keep a tank full of monster bass, I need to do what's better for the fish.

With that, I won't be out completely. I plan on keeping just two or three of my orinos along with the little guys. I will listing the fish for sale soon, so if you're interested hit me up :)
 
wow. i would have never thought you of all people.. your fish are in there prime i would wait another year. give it some time. think it threw man thats totally insane.
 
i have realized that cichla eat to much, which makes it impossible to keep anything with, that is what i am backing out of all cichla too. Which i had nothing compared to you.
 
yeah it sucks just thinking about it, but like I said, it's not realistic with a 400g tank. I'll be focusing on new fish. don't know what yet though
 
As I was reading your post, I was thinking "I don't understand why he doesn't at least keep a few," so I am glad you are keeping some. Sure, the demands of having a tank stocked full of adult cichla are very high. But keeping 3 or 4 adult Cichla in a large tank is very doable. I have no idea what is going through people's minds who think they can have a JDM tank packed with Cichla - And I am not talking about you J, I'm talking about some others on the site.

yeah I'll be keeping my favorite two or three, and maybe the best out of the grow outs. I have at least two years with those guys
