i've got my sights set on buying an alligator snapper... im gonna keep him in a 30 g until he outgrows it, then to the pond he goes... :D:D:D... he's still pretty small, around 4" carapace... then i realized, i might actually lose a finger... so i'm having doubts.... so does anyone have advice for me, or is there a turtle that's as cool, but doesnt want my finger?... thanks!! :D

This is a pic that I took of an albino Florida Snapper which is a relatively similar animal (well actually I held the beast, my brother took the pic). They ALWAYS want to bite you and if you are not careful, you can indeed lose a finger. Unless you are really good at handling big turtles, I wouldn't suggest this as a pet. If you just want an interesting turtle, maybe try to find an albino Red Ear Slider or something. They are really cool looking and easier to take care of than that snapper.

awesome turtle!!... i actually have turtles already.. REsliders, box turtles, softshell... but i want one that loves to eat meat and has a mean temperament... the snapper fits the description... im just wondering if there's other turtles like a snapper, just not as dangerous... :D:D:D

that is an albino *common* snapping turtle not an aligator snapping turtle

i dont know about the phillipenes but in these here parts snappers are good eaten not to be eaten by:naughty:

Go get the alligator. HAve had one for years before I gave her away..it is a slow ambush hunter so there is no way, except if you dangle your hand in front of its mouth that it is going to bite you..very interesting to watch in ambush, dangling a small bait it has in its tongue to atract fish...

what is dangerous ( and i also had ) are ones called Chelidra Serpentina, who are very active hunters. those realy go after you, with their big necks and want to catch you.

Not the alligator..:)

Snapping turtles are fun...I don't know much about alligators, but I got a common six years ago and have raised her up. She's in a 300-gal stock tank which should be good for life.

The things I do know about alligator snappers are that they barely move and they have very short necks, which probably makes them easier to move.
