Oh Sure Im a Paddy :D
 Just wondering how much you pay every month with water clean outs. Us here in Ireland will have to start paying for water because of The Stupid Polotician scumbags messing up our money. So if i have a 540Gal How many clean outs a month will i have to do with big fish?CKF,Arowana,TSNxLei will be in the tank. See i dont think i will be able to pay for it because im to young for a job(14). And i would not like to put my dad under presure with money. Or could i even keep cichlids like Severums and Hoplarchus Psittacus together and only have to do water changes like once a month. Like small fish=less clean outs?? Please reply i wanna keep Big fish.

if you have 540 gallon tank, a lightly stocked tank will run about 200 gallons monthly if you change 10% weekly...a heavily loaded tank will run about 600 gallons if you change about 30% weekly.

In any case, you can try to look into a home made nirate reducer type thing which can potentially cut your water bill; but with 540 gallon tank, I would think you have more expenses than just water.

Yeah i know everyone is feeling the pressure. The worst part would be getting rid of My Silver Arowana. My first Arowana. Grew from 3'' to 19 in 1 year.

Get plants, lots of plants.

They'll use the waste products from the fish as food, and your water will stay much cleaner thereby necessitating fewer water changes. I have kept aquariums with a decent amount of plants in them and no filter, and I had better water quality in those than the ones with a well-maintained filter and no plants!

You might even be able to put together some sort of hydroponics system to run the aquarium water through to utilize the fish waste and make it useful.

Im going to put plants in the sump aswell. Thanks a Million Wiggles and everyone else for your help :) ]v[FK ALL THE WAY! :D

Start paying for water? :D welcome to the rest of the world lol. I'm more concerned with electricity than water usage myself. I've had to get rid of a number of my "one to a tank" fish because of rising hydro costs.

like said earlier... do plants pothos plants seem to work really well... there is a thread in the stingray forum that might help you.. i have a buddy that has a 280 and started doing this and his nitrates stayed down at around 20 ppm for almost a month... probably would have lasted longer but he went ahead and did a WC.... a lot of people have had success with this plant in the sump...

Wow I really misread that. Ive never heard of free water lol. I thought you were being charged to get rid of water, then I thought, "Oh wait, I pay to get rid of water". Yeah that's right. Damn city charges for water, and then a "sewage charge" to take away my old dirty water.

That still sucks though, but welcome to USA MFKing. EVERYTHING costs money where I live.
