I just collected about 1.5 pounds of milfoil from a local reservoir, and I was wondering how well it does floating in an aquarium? It will be with native fish, so the tank will be unheated, and im just going to buy 2 40 watt lights designed for plants for the the 125g they will be in. I figure if there floating then maybe I wont need as much wattage per gallon since they will be so close to the lights, is this a good assumption?

Very cool, free plants are a good thing. Your idea sounds good to me, I've done similar with good results of plant growth. Just make sure to wash it down really good before you put it in your tank. Good luck!

It does great in unheated tanks but can tend to fall apart in tropical tanks. It also tolerate a moderately brackish water tank.

Thnaks guys! I think it will be cool to have a native tank w/ native plants (milfoil and anacharis), but it will be awhile before its up and running, but as soon as it is Ill post pics!
